Elaine T. Gelinas

Elaine Gelinas spent 35 years in the Boston, Massachusetts, Public School system. She received her B.A. in Psychology from University of Massachusetts, Boston, in 1970, and her M. Ed. in Special Education from Boston State College in 1973. She completed her doctoral work in Counseling Psychology, All But Dissertation, at Boston University in 1977, and was a Conant Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1990. From 1970 to 1975, Elaine was a Special Education Teacher in the Boston Public Schools, modifying elementary school curriculum for special needs students and promoting positive behavior management techniques. She then developed the EDCO Alternative School (an alternative high school for dropouts), where she was Site Director from 1977 to 1979. At EDCO she also coordinated curriculum, standards and policy and supervised staff and students.
In 1980, Elaine began her 25 year career as a Guidance Counselor with the Boston Public Schools. In that role she provided individual and group counseling, administered the College and Career Center, organized and facilitated guidance activities, chaired the Scholarship Committee, coordinated senior class activities, supervised the practicum experience for graduate students, and consulted with parents, staff and community agencies. Currently a consultant for TERI College Access, she is developing and writing a college resource guide for Boston Public Schools.
