Dr. Robert C. Spear

Bob Spear has been an innovative middle level educator for 25 years. He received his bachelor's degree in Education in 1969, and his M.S. in Guidance in 1971, both from Central Connecticut State College. He achieved his Educational 6th Year Degree, Educational Administration, from the University of Connecticut in 1976 and his Ed.D. in Educational Leadership/Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Massachusetts in 1993. He is a former principal in a school that educators visited to observe effective middle level education in action. He has been involved in middle level teaching and leadership his entire career.

He is the Executive Director of the New England League of Middle Schools, a position he has held for nearly ten years. He is in frequent contact with numerous schools throughout the New England area keeping abreast of exemplary middle level practices. He has been elected twice as an East Region Trustee to the National Middle School Association and is a former NMSA committee member. He is active in several state level middle school organizations and is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He has authored numerous articles in his field, and has served as a reviewer for middle level curriculum textbook publishers. In 1998, he received the Connecticut Association of Schools Award for “Outstanding Leadership and Service to Middle Level Education.”
